TECHNOLOGY
What is OCC?
Optical Camera Communication (OCC) is a technology that uses a camera to detect and decode light signals. It turns light patterns, such as flashing lights or light codes, into data. OCC technology enables communication by transmitting information using visible light, infrared light, or other forms of light that the camera can capture.
How it works?
Transmitter
A light source, such as an LED, transmits information through light signals, functioning similarly to Morse code but using light instead of sound.
Receiver
A camera receiver designed to capture signals from multiple transmitters within its field of view. It can utilize either a COTS sensor or an OCC CMOS sensor.
OCC Sensor
A camera sensor engineered to simultaneously capture image and spatial data. It is optimized for medium to high bandwidth while maintaining low power consumption. With integrated silicon-level functionality for optical communication, it ensures full pixel-level support, even during motion.
COTS OCC Sensor
Leverages a commercial off-the-shelf camera adapted for OCC, combined with a proprietary software IP core to enable camera-based optical communication functionality.
